Apple’s first foldable iPhone is coming this fall, and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shares new information about how the interface will work. In particular, it is noted that the iPhone Fold (or the name Apple will give to the new phone) will allow you to run two applications side by side.
Il Primo iPhone con Applicazioni Affiancate
Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone Fold in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro. Like the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone Fold will run on iOS 27, and Apple will preview this at WWDC in June. However, do not expect software features specific to the iPhone Fold to be revealed before the hardware.
In the meantime, Mark Gurman’s reports provide a preview of what to expect. First of all, side-by-side applications will come with an iPad-like layout similar to the horizontal layouts partially offered on current iPhones.
This product — Apple’s long-awaited entry into this category — is expected to have a foldable screen about the size of an iPad mini. Additionally, there will be an outer screen similar in size to a small iPhone screen.
Gurman notes that Apple’s foldable design has two advantages; it is expected to have a wider aspect ratio compared to existing foldable smartphones. The first is for watching videos. The second is adapting existing iPhone applications to the new device.
Regarding application development, Gurman provides more details:
Apple is developing new iOS application layouts and redesigning core iPhone programs to add sidebars on the left edge of the screen; this is similar to many iPad applications. Developers will also be able to adapt iPhone software for the new interface; this will use ratios similar to an iPad in landscape mode.
The report states that the iPhone Fold will not run iPad applications. A real windowing system like that on a similarly sized iPad mini will not be offered.
Dettagli sul Design di iPhone Fold
This week, 3D design files that preview the hardware emerged online.
The design features a camera bump similar to the iPhone Air; however, there are two cameras here, not just one. The phone has a square design on the two corners where the hinge is located and a rounded design on the other two corners.
Additionally, the design files show how the iPhone Fold will look in its open form. A dot in the top left corner represents the front-facing camera. Another image shows the phone's outer edges in open form and the outer screen view when closed.
According to rumors, Gurman touches on some of these details regarding the iPhone Fold in his latest Bloomberg report. You can read the full report here.
