All signs indicate that Apple's base iPhone 18 model will be missing from this fall's flagship series and will instead be introduced in early 2027. However, when it arrives, it is reported to come with at least one new Pro-level upgrade: 12GB of RAM.
Analyst says iPhone 18 will come with 12GB RAM with A20 chip
Recent reports about the base model iPhone 18 have focused on negative aspects. We received further confirmation that the iPhone 18 will not be released this fall as it normally would. Instead, Apple is delaying it until early 2027 alongside the iPhone 18e.
Additionally, Weibo leak source Fixed Focus Digital states that Apple plans to reduce the iPhone 18 production process to cut costs. This may lead to some minor feature regressions compared to the iPhone 17.
However, today there is better news for Apple's base model.
Analyst Dan Nystedt, who previously reported on Apple's A20 chip and the new 2nm process, added a new detail about the A20 today: it will have 12GB of RAM.

Last fall, we had heard that 12GB RAM could be a possibility for the iPhone 18, but it still seemed quite uncertain.
However, with Nystedt's confirmation, it now appears that 12GB is a more reliable prediction. This would represent a 50% increase compared to the 8GB RAM found in the base iPhone 17.
Apple introduced a similar upgrade to the Pro models last year, moving from the iPhone 16 Pro to the iPhone 17 Pro. And considering the increasing importance of AI tasks, it is not surprising that the base model will soon follow a similar path.
