Apple has released a new version of GarageBand for Mac. The new version finally includes an application icon optimized for macOS Tahoe.

Apple introduced macOS Tahoe to the public on September 15, 2025, more than 200 days ago, so it’s great to see GarageBand finally getting the attention it deserves.

As part of macOS 26, Apple mandated that all application icons must use the same rounded rectangle shape as iOS and iPadOS applications. Inappropriate icons are compressed into a rounded-rectangle shape with a gray background.

Although the new icon no longer has a gray compatibility box in macOS Tahoe, the application itself is still designed for macOS 15.

Before and after

The release notes for GarageBand version 10.4.14 only provide information about stability improvements and bug fixes. The new application update also raises the minimum macOS version from macOS 14.4 to macOS 15.6, according to @aaronp613.

While GarageBand is still available as a free application for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, Apple has recently shifted its focus to the Creator Studio with a paid application package. Earlier this month, Apple released new versions of Logic for iPad and Mac.

Along with Logic, Apple Creator Studio is offered at $12.99 per month or $129 per year after a free trial period.

GarageBand is available for free on the App Store.
