When Apple releases visionOS 26.4, the Apple Vision Pro will be able to display the "world's most advanced flight simulator" for the first time. This is because the upcoming software update supports a significant technology that will provide this new immersive flight experience.
X-Plane 12 is coming to Apple Vision Pro
X-Plane 12 is referred to as the "world's most advanced flight simulator" and is currently available on Mac, Windows, and Linux.
With the beta version of visionOS 26.4, X-Plane 12 will be coming to Apple Vision Pro for the first time.
It appears that visionOS 26.4 supports Nvidia's CloudXR 6.0 technology.
A companion app coming for visionOS will make the Apple Vision Pro a viewing point for X-Plane 12 using CloudXR. The X-Plane team announced this news today:
This spring, with NVIDIA CloudXR 6.0, Apple Vision Pro users on visionOS 26.4 will be able to stream immersive PC and cloud-based experiences, including X-Plane 12, from NVIDIA RTX systems.
Spatial computing offers players a completely new way to experience their favorite games. You will enjoy an immersive flight experience that makes your training more vivid and realistic with your Apple Vision Pro and existing flight simulator hardware.
With the companion app, X-Plane 12 will be able to automatically detect the Apple Vision Pro and stream the flight simulator to the device.
When the app is released, a companion app will be published in the App Store for Apple Vision Pro. When you launch the app, the sim will automatically detect your Apple Vision Pro and stream X-Plane to your device.
By using image detection through ARKit, the sim can reliably track cockpit positions and allows you to seamlessly blend physical and digital worlds. CloudXR also unveils a privacy-preserving foveated streaming feature that delivers high-resolution visuals with low latency while preserving eye data.
X-Plane 12 is likely just the first of many similar immersive simulator experiences that will be enabled with visionOS 26.4.
