Artificial intelligence is shaking up many industries worldwide, but despite some analysts' concerns, the iPhone looks stronger than ever, even with the challenges Apple faces with AI. And this is no coincidence, says Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas.

According to Perplexity CEO, the iPhone Will Benefit from Continuous AI Development

The iPhone is a consumer product that has changed the world and continues to enhance its success in some way. For instance, Apple's most recently reported quarter was the company's largest quarter and also the best quarter for the iPhone.

However, as AI continues to cause disruptions in various markets worldwide, some wonder whether the iPhone will eventually be overthrown by a new, AI-centric product or computing method.

Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas certainly does not think so.

Speaking in the latest episode of the AI-related This Week in AI podcast, Srinivas stated that the iPhone will benefit from continuous AI development.

Here is my opinion. I have never said this before. The phone, the iPhone is actually not affected by AI at all. In fact, the better AI works, the iPhone essentially becomes your digital passport.

The Perplexity CEO emphasizes that Apple’s ecosystem and silicon advantages are reasons for the iPhone's positioning for continuous success. At the same time, in his view, these advantages are also a reason why Apple may have been slow to move forward with the long-awaited Siri refresh.

While many people have opinions about how good or bad Siri is, I think [Apple] has the ability to take their time in doing what they want to do because they have the brand advantage that people really trust. The ecosystem lock-in is being overlooked. Auxiliary hardware devices, chip advantages, all of these are really being overlooked right now.

Srinivas also points out that there are many reasons unrelated to AI that keep the iPhone central in people's lives.

“It contains your wallet, all your cards, your passes, your health records, you connect with other people, you FaceTime, you make calls, you keep photos of valuable moments in your life.” he says. All of this is extremely personal, and therefore users will not easily give up their iPhones.
