Pioneer was the first brand to bring Apple CarPlay to existing vehicles in 2014, and now the company is back with another CarPlay first. The new Pioneer Sphera is the first aftermarket system with Dolby Atmos support and is now available for purchase.
Pioneer Sphera with Aftermarket Dolby Atmos is Now Available via CarPlay
At CES 2026, Pioneer introduced the new Sphera aftermarket in-dash receiver that supports premium CarPlay:
Building on decades of audio innovation, Pioneer, a global leader in automotive sound systems and aftermarket vehicle electronics, is introducing the world’s first aftermarket spatial audio in-dash receiver SPHERA featuring Dolby Atmos® playback in Apple CarPlay. Until now, in-car Dolby Atmos has only been available in models equipped with Dolby Atmos-supported sound systems. With SPHERA, Pioneer expands access to Dolby Atmos through an aftermarket solution that can be installed in millions of existing vehicles, delivering an impressive sound experience using the vehicle's existing speakers.
The Pioneer Sphera (model DMH-WT8000NEX) is now available for purchase.
Previously, Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio were only offered in certain vehicles with limited options. Apple also provides Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio support in audio products like AirPods and HomePods.
Pioneer brings Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio to all vehicles with an optimized 4-channel solution using existing front and rear speakers. This is made possible thanks to Pioneer’s “Pure Autotuning” technology.
Vehicle cabins vary greatly in size, shape, and material, and aftermarket upgrades can further affect acoustic variables. To account for and adapt to these differences, PURE Autotuning technology precisely adjusts time alignment, frequency response, and channel levels to optimize performance and place the listener in an acoustic center position. This level of accuracy is essential for delivering a Dolby Atmos experience that stays true to the creative intent of musicians and content creators.
Sphera comes with a 10.1-inch HD capacitive screen featuring advanced Pioneer capabilities:
Taking advantage of the large screen size, split-screen mode divides part of the screen for easy access to main features and control options. The integrated Pioneer Luminous Bar adds a subtle visual signature to the dashboard and offers Music Synchronization Mode to sync your music with Enhanced Visual Mode for navigation support. Wireless connectivity makes the experience seamless with wireless CarPlay, wireless Android Auto™, and Bluetooth®. Designed for universal aftermarket mounting, SPHERA adapts to a wide range of vehicles with minimal modification, ensuring impressive sound reaches drivers.
Crutchfield is selling the new Pioneer Sphera at a retail price of $1,299.99, and it is now shipping.
If you are considering adding wireless CarPlay to your existing vehicle, it looks like a great solution, especially for Apple Music listeners.
