Apple SVP Eddy Cue had previously suggested that we might not be using iPhones in 10 years, but marketing chief Greg Joswiak does not seem to agree with that.

In a new interview, Joz stated that it is hard to imagine not using an iPhone even 50 years from now.

Will There Be No iPhone in 10 Years?

Apple SVP Eddy Cue said last year that we might not need an iPhone in 10 years.

“You might not need an iPhone in 10 years, no matter how crazy that sounds,” he said. “The only way to get real competition is through technology changes. Technology changes create these opportunities. AI is a new technology change and is creating new opportunities for new ventures.”

We had previously mentioned that there seemed to be an agenda behind this statement, but his view aligned with an internal presentation from 2019 suggesting that smart glasses would eventually replace smartphones, and this change was expected to occur in about ten years.

Will iPhones Still Be Here in 50 Years?

However, Joz, in an interview with Wired, said that it is hard to imagine not using an iPhone even 50 years from now. The executive acknowledged the significant changes that AI would bring in such a timeframe, but stated that it does not require a new type of hardware to utilize them.

“Nothing you said is incompatible with the iPhone,” says Joswiak. “The iPhone is not going away. The iPhone will play a very central role in everything you mentioned.”

When specifically asked if we would still be using iPhones in 50 years, he said yes.

“It’s hard to imagine,” says Joswiak […] “We’re not going to get into future roadmaps, but I can tell you this, iPhones are not going anywhere.”

Tim Cook Said Apple Will Not Have an AI CEO

Apple CEO Tim Cook was asked if he could ever see the company being run by AI executives, and he said absolutely not, even 50 years from now.

“When you look at the future of Apple’s leadership page,” he says, “there will not be an agency model.”
