Google is implementing a price increase for YouTube Premium plans in the U.S., with prices rising up to $4 per month.
The new YouTube Premium prices for new subscribers in the U.S. are as follows:
- Individual: $15.99/month, up from $13.99
- Family: $26.99/month, up from $22.99
- Lite: $8.99/month, up from $7.99
- Music Premium: $11.99/month, up from $10.99
YouTube Premium had not raised its prices for several years. The family plan increased from $17.99 to $22.99 in 2022, and individual plans also rose from $11.99 to $13.99 in 2023. YouTube Premium Lite has been available for about a year now, and features like background playback and offline downloads were added to the low-cost subscription.
Current YouTube Premium subscribers have started receiving emails about the price change, but Google has not yet widely announced this increase. Our account subscribed to the family plan still shows the fee of $22.99/month, but many users report receiving emails about the higher pricing.
It appears that the price change will take effect in the June 2026 billing cycle.
The email partially states:
To continue providing great service and features, we are increasing your price to $15.99/month. We do not take these decisions lightly, but this update will allow us to continue improving Premium and supporting the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.
You will see the change on your billing date of June 7, 2026.
While these price increases are not large - in comparison, Netflix also recently raised its prices by $2, marking the second increase in two years - they will certainly not be well received.
Premium subscribers can cancel their subscriptions through YouTube Memberships and can pause their subscriptions for up to six months. Individual plan holders can save 15% by paying $159.99 annually - just over $13 per month.
