The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are coming this fall, and a new report indicates that these models will offer "some of the biggest camera hardware updates in the series' history."
The camera updates in the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max may be bigger than we thought
Today, Bloomberg reported that the Camera app in iOS 27 will gain a new 'Siri' mode that offers visual intelligence features. This follows a report that emerged yesterday about new Photos tools for AI image editing.
At the end of today's report, there is a relevant hint about how these new features will complement the camera hardware updates in the iPhone 18 Pro.
Mark Gurman writes in Bloomberg:
The changes are coming ahead of the iPhone 18 Pro's launch this fall and will include some of the biggest camera hardware updates in the series' history.
This is the last sentence of Gurman's report and does not share any specific details.
Previous reports indicate that the main camera of the iPhone 18 Pro will receive a new variable aperture feature. This could allow users to adjust focus and depth of field like never before.
Another rumor suggests that the Telephoto camera will have a wider aperture this year.
However, aside from these changes, we haven't heard much information about the new camera features being worked on.
The application details could make these updates a bigger deal than we thought, but it still doesn't mean "some of the biggest camera hardware updates in the series' history."
I think Gurman will provide additional details in a new report soon. But for now, it seems that the camera system of the iPhone 18 Pro may bring some surprises we haven't heard about yet.
