Anthropic Adds Routines to Revamped Claude Code, Here’s How It Works

Anthropic's Claude Code features a new repeatable routines capability that works even when your Mac is offline. Claude Code has been redesigned as part of the Claude app for Mac, with new features.

Claude Code routines work on Anthropic's web infrastructure

Claude Code routines are automations that you schedule and repeat. Your Mac does not need to be online for each task because they operate on Claude Code's web infrastructure.

Anthropic notes that the new feature comes today as a research preview.

Developers are already using Claude Code to automate the software development cycle, but until now they have managed additional tools like cron jobs, infrastructure, and MCP servers themselves. Routines come with access to your stores and connections to allow you to package automations and run them on a calendar or with a trigger.

Example use cases include scheduled tasks, API workflows, and GitHub routines.

Claude Code routine limits vary by plan

Claude Code routines are available for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise users, with the following limits:

Pro supports running 5 routines per day
Max supports running 15 routines per day
Team/Enterprise supports running 25 routines per day

Additionally, Anthropic introduced another new way for developers to use Claude Code with the automatic mode last month. Meanwhile, Claude Cowork graduated from research preview with the addition of new enterprise features.

Furthermore, Anthropic has released a redesigned version of the Claude Code experience. Claude Code, Cowork, and Chat are part of the Claude app.

“You can now run multiple Claude sessions side by side from a single window, with a new sidebar to manage them all,” says Anthropic. “The redesign also adds an integrated terminal, file editing, HTML and PDF preview, and a faster diff viewer; all of which are in a drag-and-drop layout that you can customize to your preferences.”
