macOS Tahoe 26.4 is coming soon as the next software update for your Mac. Here are four new features that come with macOS 26.4.

#1: Battery Charge Limit

The iPhone, iPad, and AirPods have built-in features that allow you to limit the maximum charge level. Now, with macOS 26.4, your Mac joins this list.

‘Charge Limit’ is a new feature in macOS 26.4 that allows you to set your MacBook's maximum charge limit to less than 100%.

You can choose a preferred limit between 80% and 100%. According to Apple, setting a lower limit "can help extend your battery life."

The new setting is available in the Battery menu of System Settings. Just click on the ‘i’ icon next to the ‘Charge’ section.

#2: Safari’s Compact Tab Bar

If you loved the ‘Compact Tab Bar’ setting in Safari that was previously available on macOS, Apple is bringing it back with macOS 26.4.

It seems that due to more reactions than expected regarding its removal, Apple has reinstated the ‘Compact Tab Bar’ as an option in Safari settings.

The Compact Tab Bar allows more of a web page to be visible on the screen. Therefore, it is especially useful on smaller laptop screens.

Whether you are using a 13-inch MacBook Neo or a 27-inch Studio Display XDR, you will have a clean and dense tab bar option at the top of your browser with macOS 26.4.

#3: Exclusive Features Coming to Freeform for Creator Studio

When Apple Creator Studio was released earlier this year, it provided access to professional applications like Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, and Pixelmator Pro, and also unlocked new features exclusive to Creator Studio in apps like Pages, Keynote, and Numbers.

At that time, Apple had mentioned that Freeform would also gain Creator Studio-exclusive features later in the year.

Now, these new features are officially coming with macOS 26.4.

Freeform users will have access to premium images in the Content Center, can enlarge low-resolution images, create cropping suggestions, and generate new images using OpenAI's models.

#4: New Emojis

With Apple’s 26.4 updates for Mac, iPhone, iPad, and more, eight new emojis are coming.

In macOS 26.4, you will find the following additions to the built-in emojis:

  • Ballet Dancer
  • Broken Face
  • Clash Cloud
  • Hairy Creature
  • Land Slide
  • Killer Whale
  • Trombone
  • Treasure Chest

The ‘Broken Face’ emoji closely resembles an emoji featured in the controversial iPad Pro ad ‘Crush’ from 2024.
