Apple releases new iPhone models every year, but products in completely new categories are much rarer. According to Mark Gurman, there are six "big new product categories" being developed at Apple.
According to Gurman, Apple's 'Big New Product Categories'
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman spoke this week on TBPN about what to expect from Apple's CEO transition, John Ternus, and more.
During the conversation, Gurman stated: "There are currently six major Apple products being developed, six big new product categories."
The complete list he shared is as follows:
- Artificial Intelligence AirPods
- Smart Glasses
- Necklace
- Smart Display
- Desktop Robot
- Security Camera
I could argue that the Artificial Intelligence AirPods do not belong on the list of "big new product categories" because it still remains an AirPods product after all.
However, all the other products on the list represent a completely new category that Apple has not entered before.
Apple Glasses are expected to be introduced later this year or in early 2027. In any case, they are reported not to be released until 2027.
Gurman previously reported the Necklace as an alternative new wearable technology to the Artificial Intelligence AirPods and Glasses. All three products are expected to be heavily integrated with an iPhone for Siri and other AI features.
Smart Display (‘HomePad’), Desktop Robot, and Security Camera are completely new Apple Home products.
According to the latest we heard, the HomePad is set to be released this fall—likely at the iPhone 18 event. The Desktop Robot is planned to be released in 2027, but Gurman recently indicated that it might be pushed to 2028. The Security Camera is expected to be released within this year.
