It is said that Apple's fall iPhone series this year will revolve around the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Ultra. Here are three major feature differences that could affect your upgrade decision, excluding price.

Form Factor: Traditional or Foldable?

This difference is the most obvious, but it is worth mentioning because it is still the most important.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to offer the fundamental form factor that the iPhone has had for years. They are expected to have the same screen size and overall design as previous models. If you want a traditional iPhone experience, the iPhone 18 Pro will be the right choice for you.

On the other hand, the iPhone Ultra will be Apple's first foldable model. It has a shorter and wider outer screen compared to a traditional iPhone, while its inner screen resembles that of an iPad mini.

Cameras: Pro will continue to be the best

Apple has always placed the best and most innovative camera technology in its Pro models. This is expected to continue this year.

The iPhone Ultra is expected to offer many of the same camera features as the iPhone 18 Pro, but there is a major exception: it will not have a telephoto camera.

According to rumors, the iPhone Ultra will include the main, ultra-wide, and front cameras found in the Pro series. However, the telephoto lens will remain exclusive to the Pro model and is expected to be further improved this year.

Performance: Both have the A20 Pro chip, but materials matter

It is expected that both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Ultra will be based on the same A20 Pro chip. However, due to design and material differences, their performance levels may vary slightly.

The iPhone 18 Pro will use the same aluminum unibody design as the iPhone 17 Pro and will include a vapor chamber for cooling. These changes have allowed the iPhone 17 Pro to perform better overall compared to its predecessor, as it can stay cooler during demanding tasks.

The iPhone Ultra, on the other hand, will have a sleek titanium-based design like the iPhone Air and is not expected to include a vapor chamber. Therefore, despite having the same chip, it may lag behind in performance during sunny conditions or intensive tasks.
