Macworld report says Apple will use the ‘Ultra’ brand for new iPhone and MacBook
Filipe Espósito writes for Macworld:
It is said that Apple will bring one of the biggest updates to the iPhone series this year and unveil its first foldable phone. While many reporters have referred to this device as the “iPhone Fold,” Macworld has received information confirming that Apple will prefer the “Ultra” brand for its new iPhone model.
According to a source familiar with Apple’s plans, the company appears determined to expand the Ultra brand with the new flagship iPhone coming this fall. Additionally, our source indicates that there is a high likelihood that Apple will also use the Ultra brand for the Mac.
Mark Gurman had previously provided information about Apple’s goals to expand the ‘Ultra’ line, and several recent Weibo leaks have stated that ‘iPhone Ultra’ is the planned name for Apple’s foldable iPhone.
Now, the Macworld report further confirms the name iPhone Ultra, stating that the first ‘MacBook Ultra’ will also be coming.
Apple’s iPhone Ultra is expected to be introduced in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.
The new model will feature:
- foldable, crease-free display
- approximately 5.5-inch outer display and 7.8-inch inner display
- A20 Pro chip and C2 cellular modem
- special iOS 27 features for side-by-side apps
- main and ultra-wide cameras on the back, one front camera for each display
- Touch ID integrated into the power button
Meanwhile, the MacBook Ultra is actually expected to be a new high-end model introduced as the M6 MacBook Pro.
The new MacBook Ultra will come with a new industrial design, a touchscreen OLED display, Dynamic Island instead of a notch, and likely a C2 cellular modem.
The Macworld report reiterates that Apple plans to launch the iPhone Ultra this September and aims to release the MacBook Ultra within this year, though this may be pushed to early 2027.
