Spotify is introducing new video controls that allow users to turn off video content within the app. These controls include Canvas images, music videos, and podcast videos. The update is starting to be rolled out globally today for Family Plan managers, with controls expected to be available for all Premium, Basic, and free users later this month.
These controls work across all Spotify platforms, including mobile, desktop, web, and TV. Users who disable video content will still see video ads and Canvas-like visuals on some audio ads.
Which Spotify Videos Can You Disable and When Will Each Plan Get the Controls
The new settings cover two types of video content: Canvas loop visuals accompanying audio tracks and video content for music and podcasts. Each can be turned on or off independently. To access these controls, go to the Settings menu, then click on Content and Viewing and change the relevant options. Preferences set here will apply to all devices where the account is active.
Family Plan managers can immediately enable or disable video content for any member of their plan through subscription settings. Spotify states that this improves controls already available for managed accounts of users under 13 years old.
It is noted that controls for individual Premium, Basic, Duo, Family, and Student plan subscribers, as well as free users, will begin to be rolled out globally in the later days of April. Spotify has not provided a specific date for when all account types will gain access.
