Apple TV continues to be a hub for sci-fi fans, and now two of its popular series have inspired new spin-off series.
Star City, Spin-off of For All Mankind, Arrives on May 29
Long before Severance, Pluribus, and Silo, Apple TV's first sci-fi series was For All Mankind.
New seasons of For All Mankind are still in production, with the 5th season premiering later this month.
When that season concludes, a new spin-off series titled Star City will begin.
Star City is an alternative history space race drama like For All Mankind; it takes place within the same foundational world and story framework. However, the narrative is told from the perspective of the Soviets instead of Americans.
Here is Apple's official summary:
A bold new chapter inspired by the critically acclaimed space race drama “For All Mankind,” “Star City” is a gripping paranoia thriller that returns to a pivotal moment in the alternative history of the space race — when the Soviet Union became the first country to send a man to the moon. This time, however, we explore the risks taken to advance humanity by showcasing the lives of those behind the Iron Curtain, including cosmonauts, engineers, and the intelligence officers who accompany them.
Star City will debut with two episodes on Apple TV on Friday, May 29, and will continue with weekly releases until July 10.
A Prequel Story for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Featuring Young Lee Shaw
Another major sci-fi series currently airing is Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
The Godzilla, Kong, Monsterverse series stars Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell in a family-focused mix of sci-fi action and character drama.
Earlier this year, Apple announced that Monarch would receive multiple spin-off series.
The first of these series will be a production featuring Wyatt Russell reprising his role as young Lee Shaw.
According to Apple's press release:
The spin-off series, starring and produced by [Wyatt] Russell, will follow the story of American operator Colonel Lee Shaw, who embarks on a secret mission behind enemy lines in 1984 to stop the Soviets from unleashing a terrifying Titan that could destroy the U.S.
Emmy-nominated writer and producer Joby Harold will serve as the showrunner for the series. Joby also oversees all of Legendary's Monsterverse franchise for Apple.
The release date for this first Monarch spin-off has not yet been shared, but it is unlikely to be before 2027.
