Netflix is rolling out a comprehensive update for its iPhone app today, as previously announced. Among the innovations is a vertical video stream called ‘Clips’. Here are the updates.
Netflix’s iPhone app changes navigation design, adds vertical video streaming
According to Netflix’s press release:
We are offering a new mobile experience that makes it faster, easier, and more fun to find something you love.
Last year, we updated our TV experience for the first time in over a decade. Now, we are bringing the same simplicity and enjoyment-focused approach to mobile devices. The new design highlights what matters to you and provides a visually engaging, vertical exploration experience that feels comfortable on your smartphone.
The navigation bar at the top of the app has been expanded to accommodate more options than ever before. The bottom tab bar has also been refreshed; the ‘New & Hot’ tab has been removed and dedicated tabs for ‘Search’ and ‘Clips’ have been added.
‘Clips’ is the new vertical video stream in Netflix’s iPhone app and the biggest change in today’s update.

According to the press release: "Think of ‘Clips’ as a personalized summary that helps you decide what to watch or play without endless scrolling."
There are three main ways users can benefit from Clips:
- Add to My List: Did you see something you liked? Add movies and series directly from the stream to your list.
- Share: Want to relive that long-awaited kiss, search for clues behind that OMG surprise, or share your favorite cozy watching recommendation with a friend? Use the arrow below to share recommendations with your friends and followers via text or social media.
- Explore: Planning a family movie night? Or just looking for a good laugh? Discover a personalized world of entertainment that will help you decide what to watch.
Netflix says this is just the beginning of its vertical video goals. Clips will later expand to include “podcasts, live streams, and collections based on genres like romance or specific interests.”
According to Netflix, the new iPhone app design is being rolled out today in various launch countries such as the US, UK, Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, and South Africa. It will be released in all other countries in the coming months.
