iOS 27 is set to be introduced this June, and a new rumor suggests that it may bring a powerful new capability to the Shortcuts app: creating entirely new actions using AI prompts.
The Shortcuts app may gain AI-generated actions in iOS 27
Reports indicate that iOS 27 will be rich in Apple Intelligence updates. The most significant of these will undoubtedly be the new Siri app and related system-wide expansions.
However, according to MacRumors, there are reports of a powerful Shortcuts feature being developed that is linked to the new Siri and Apple Intelligence capabilities, discovered by Nicolás Alvarez.
Tim Hardwick writes:
Apple is developing a new Shortcuts feature that allows users to create unique actions using Apple Intelligence models. This is based on backend code discovered by Nicolás Alvarez and confirmed by MacRumors. […]
As part of iOS 26, Apple added Apple Intelligence support to the Shortcuts app, allowing AI models to be included in shortcuts. In contrast, the new version Apple is working on will allow users to create actions using Apple Intelligence models by giving voice commands in natural language.
This new capability is expected to be linked to a broader Siri refresh that will not only apply to the new Siri app but also through the system-wide 'Ask Siri' buttons.
Therefore, if you are using the Shortcuts app in iOS 27, there may be an 'Ask Siri' button that allows you to create new custom actions.
