Spotify was an early player in the field of algorithmically suggested music. Now, the company is testing a feature that allows listeners to influence Spotify's recommendations more directly. This feature is called Taste Profile and is currently in beta.
If you have previously created your preferences in an AI chatbot application, Spotify's Taste Profile feature works in a very similar way. You specify what kind of recommendations you want to receive or what your listening habits are, and this shapes your suggestions.
Here is more information from Spotify on how this feature works:
Taste Profile allows you to see how Spotify understands your taste and shape it yourself, thus giving you the ability to guide what you see on your Spotify homepage. It brings together what you listen to among music, podcasts, and audiobooks, from your favorite artists and genres to habits that define your day. You might see that you’ve started exploring 90s alternative rock music or that you’re leaning towards hip-hop with distinct influences.
If something doesn’t feel quite right, you can let us know to report that your profile is incorrect. You can request more or less of a certain atmosphere, or simply share your mood. Your feedback helps determine your priorities, choose what to reduce, and guide your next discovery on your Spotify homepage.
As a beta feature, Taste Profile will not be available to everyone just yet. Instead, Spotify is primarily testing this with Premium subscribers in New Zealand, starting in the coming weeks.
Recently, Spotify has introduced new features such as improving playlists for all subscribers and recommending audiobooks.
