Get the M4 MacBook Air with the Same RAM/Storage Features as the New M5 Model for $200 Less
The new M5 MacBook Air pre-orders are active and we found some deals for those considering an upgrade. You can earn a Free $50 gift card with your purchase and take advantage of the increased trade-in values at Best Buy to get up to $600 off. But the question is, if you don’t have anything significant to trade in, is the M5 upgrade worth spending $200 more? Amazon is clearing out some M4 models, and despite the storage increase in the new M5, you can currently get the M4 for $200 less.
Apple has increased the storage options on the new M5 MacBook Air. The 256GB storage option is no longer available, which means the starting price has increased by $100, but this also lowers the list prices of the upgraded models. For example:
- 15-inch M4 MacBook Air 16GB/512GB $1,199 (Normal $1,399)
- 15-inch M5 MacBook Air 16GB/512GB $1,299
- 15-inch M4 MacBook Air 24GB/512GB $1,299 (Normal $1,599)
- 15-inch M5 MacBook Air 24GB/512GB $1,499 (Amazon does not sell this configuration)
- 15-inch M5 MacBook Air 24GB/1TB $1,699
As you can see above, despite the high price of the entry model, the prices of the upgraded M5 machines have effectively dropped compared to the M4 MacBook Air with the same features.
In this case, you can currently get the 15-inch M4 MacBook Air with 24GB RAM and 512GB SSD for $1,299 – which is $300 below the list price and $200 less than the comparable M5 MacBook Air.
Yes, the M5 chip is faster and more powerful, and the SSD in the new models offers 2x faster read/write performance compared to the previous generation, according to Apple. You will also receive a better charger in the box, and the new model includes Apple’s N1 wireless chip with Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) and Bluetooth 6.

Apple Raised the Entry Price of the M5 MacBook Pro, Get the Most Affordable Model Now for $250 Less
Today, alongside the introduction of the completely new M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook machines, Apple has quietly announced that it will no longer sell the M5 MacBook Pro with 512GB of storage – it will now start at 1TB. This means the starting price of the most affordable M5 MacBook Pro has risen to $1,699, offering additional value for the 512GB M5 MacBook Pro that you can currently get for $1,449.
The basic model and the most affordable M5 MacBook Pro for the 512GB configuration have already been removed from the Apple site, and it is unclear how much stock is left at retailers like Amazon.
The model with 16GB M5 MacBook Pro with 512GB storage that Apple no longer sells had a list price of $1,599 – $100 lower than the new starting price. However, this model is currently down to $1,449 on Amazon. This is a $150 discount from the original list price and $250 lower than the new entry price.
We only saw this 512GB variant sold at a lower price than this during the 2025 Black Friday, and it is uncertain what the stock situation will be when Apple puts the new 1TB entry model on store shelves. Pre-orders for the M5 Pro and M5 Max will start tomorrow.
We may see the new 1TB M5 MacBook Pro receive a $200 discount or more, but we will likely have to wait until later this year for that to happen. Of course, we can’t say for sure, but we can predict the earliest would be during the summer Prime Day and the most likely date would be the 2026 Black Friday.

These discounts are equivalent to the lowest prices we have tracked since their release in September, providing $100 off the list price to be paid at Apple and surpassing the official 2025 Black Friday discounts. The same offers had appeared before Christmas, but if you missed out or just weren’t ready to act, the discounts are back.
