Widow’s Bay Premiered on Apple TV
Last December, Apple announced the new comedy horror series Widow’s Bay, created by Katie Dippold (Parks and Recreation, Ghostbusters). Several episodes of the 10-episode series were directed by Hiro Murai (Atlanta, Mr. & Mrs. Smith).
Recently, the company released several promotional and preview videos, here’s a somewhat disturbing video below:
Now Widow’s Bay is available for Apple TV subscribers, but it differs slightly from Apple’s original announcement.
Last year, the company stated that the first three episodes of the series would be released on April 29. However, the company released the first two episodes tonight, and the remaining eight episodes will be released every Wednesday until June 17.
According to Apple TV, here’s what you can expect from Widow’s Bay:
“Widow’s Bay” is a charming island town located 40 miles off the coast of New England. But something is hidden beneath the surface. Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) is desperate to revive his struggling community. There’s no Wi-Fi, cell phone signals are weak, and he must deal with superstitious locals who believe it’s cursed. He wants these people to respect him. But they don’t. They think he’s soft and cowardly. And he is. However, Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and transform the island into a tourist destination. Surprisingly, he succeeds: tourists finally start to arrive. Unfortunately, the locals were right. After decades of tranquility, old stories that seem too ridiculous to be true begin to come to life again. “Widow’s Bay” blends real horror with character-driven comedy.
A few days ago, the first reviews for Widow’s Bay were published, and most critics praised its genre-blending. RogerEbert.com described Widow’s Bay as “truly different from others on TV,” while Decider called it “eerily good horror comedy.”
