CarPlay has made significant advancements recently, and following the introduction of two major applications a few weeks ago, three exciting application updates have arrived very soon. Here are the innovations.
#1: Apple Sports Widgets
Apple Sports has been updated this week with a fantastic addition for CarPlay users: widgets are now supported.
Although there is not yet an official CarPlay application for Apple Sports, you can now use widgets from Sports within the CarPlay interface.
Widgets for 'My Teams' and 'Leagues' can be configured through your iPhone via Settings ⇾ General ⇾ CarPlay.
Each allows you to check the latest scores on the go and see the schedule for upcoming matches.
Apple first added widgets for CarPlay with iOS 26; you will find them on the left side of the main Home Screen.

#2: Perplexity AI Chatbot
With iOS 26.4, CarPlay now allows you to use third-party AI chatbots while on the move.
ChatGPT was the first application to offer support, and a few days ago, Perplexity became the second.
The Perplexity CarPlay application allows you to interact with the AI tool solely through voice interactions.
Apple has implemented very specific restrictions to ensure vehicle safety for voice-based applications like Perplexity. Therefore, you won't see a lot of text on your CarPlay screen; the application revolves entirely around voice.
While we await the major Siri refresh in iOS 27, it's great to have more options for AI in the car.

#3: WhatsApp Update
WhatsApp made a significant update to its CarPlay application in early April.
The new WhatsApp CarPlay application is not limited to calling Siri for messages. You can now browse contacts, view your call history, pin favorites, and much more.
From the App Store feature:
WhatsApp has updated the CarPlay experience with a fully native interface that makes it easier to listen to messages, view chats, and see calls.
Don’t miss: The new interface allows you to see your call history more clearly and offers quick access to incoming, outgoing, or missed calls. In addition to using Siri, you can glance at recent chats and favorites and tap to send a message or make a call.
