Adobe is releasing updates today for Photoshop and Lightroom applications, introducing new AI-powered tools, workflow enhancements, and performance updates. Here are the details.
Photoshop and Lightroom are adding new smart features
After introducing the Turntable feature last month in Illustrator, which allows 2D vectors to be rotated in a 3D space, Adobe is making a similar feature available in Photoshop.
The new Rotate Object tool (found within the Transform Image tool options) allows users to rotate, tilt, and spin assets in 3D space in real-time, and then they can press the Harmonize button to adjust lighting and shadows to fit the background.
Adobe states that Rotate Object is "the product of years of research and deep collaboration." The company also adds:
Researchers built the Photoshop native render engine that provides real-time control by designing and training generative and reconfiguration models that produce 3D assets and the final enhanced image.
In addition to Rotate Object, Adobe is also adding the Layer Cleanup tool announced during last year's Adobe MAX to Photoshop.
This feature intelligently cleans up and organizes layers in the project, automatically renaming them and removing any that are empty; this process can be time-consuming depending on the complexity of the project.
Layer Cleanup comes with a new Firefly Boards integration between Photoshop and Lightroom, providing "a seamless transition from the ideation phase to the creation phase, helping you move from early concepts to final outputs without interrupting your creative workflow."
As for Lightroom, Adobe's cloud-based photo editor is also gaining two new features:
- Enhanced Search allows you to find the photos you are looking for by describing them in your own words, enabling you to locate the shots you need faster and more intuitively.
- New Film-Inspired Presets provide more creative control for a nostalgic look, while performance improvements like faster Assistant Selection and 5 times faster interactive slider performance help you manage large shots more quickly and accurately.
