Google Meet is now available on Apple CarPlay to ensure that iPhone users can "safely join meetings on the go."
Google Meet will appear on your vehicle's infotainment screen. The app will allow you to "join meetings with a single tap, view your upcoming schedule, and participate in audio calls only to stay focused on driving." You will be able to hear audio from the meeting and "have access to audio input from your microphone." The audio will be automatically transmitted from your phone or headphones to the car's speakers.
Your phone's camera will be off, and "you will not see incoming video content." Other features such as Chat, Raise Hand, Polls, or Q&A are not available. Additionally, there is no pre-search screen for Google Meet on CarPlay. The available controls offer the ability to mute/unmute the meeting and exit the meeting.
Google states that the app is "designed to provide a seamless transition from your mobile iOS device to your vehicle." The phone app will switch to Meet’s On the Go mode.
Meanwhile, Google mentions that "Android Auto users can expect a version of Meet for Android Auto soon."
Google Meet is currently being rolled out for Apple CarPlay. Make sure you have the latest version of the app installed on your iPhone. This is available to "all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts."
