Apple's Mac mini is making a comeback in AI headlines. Last month, Perplexity introduced a feature called Perplexity Computer along with the idea of an OpenClaw "personal AI assistant".
Now the company is taking this concept a step further with an application named Personal Computer. This version works with a continuously running Mac mini by "integrating your local applications with Perplexity Computer."
Perplexity announced the Personal Computer today:
We are announcing the Personal Computer. The Personal Computer is a continuously running, always-on, local integration that works for you 24/7. It operates through a Mac mini that works continuously between your files, applications, and sessions, personal and secure.
The Personal Computer operates in a secure environment and can be controlled from any device, anywhere. You can run the Personal Computer on a Mac desktop computer connected to your local applications and gain access to Perplexity's secure servers.
Perplexity also released a video showcasing the Personal Computer in action:
While announcing the Personal Computer today, Perplexity noted that potential users must first join a waiting list:
Starting today, users can join the first waiting list for the Personal Computer program. We will provide support and resources for the first group.
This is the latest example of Apple's Mac mini being preferred as an AI cloud computer. Later this year, Apple will begin producing some Mac mini computers in the United States for the first time.
