Google has started to roll out the real-time voice translation feature in Google Meet for Android and iOS applications after the web version.
This feature converts the spoken audio during a call into the participant's preferred language. The mobile version began on April 8 for Rapid Release domains and will be rolled out for Scheduled Release domains on April 23.
Supported Languages and How It Works
Voice translation currently offers two-way translation support among six languages, including English: Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, and Italian. When the feature is enabled, it translates incoming audio almost instantly, eliminating the need for participants to switch applications or use separate tools.
There are initially two limitations. Only one language pair can be active in a single meeting, meaning all participants share the same translation direction. It is currently not possible for one participant to translate into Spanish while another translates into French in the same call. Users joining from dedicated conference room hardware can hear the translated audio, but their own speech will not be translated for others in the room.
Google has stated that user interface improvements and translation accuracy enhancements will continue over time.
Who Can Use Google Meet Voice Translation
The voice translation feature in Google Meet is currently available only for specific account types:
- Google Workspace Business Standard and Business Plus, as well as Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus
- Workspace Frontline Plus and personal Google accounts subscribed to Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra
This feature is not available on free Google accounts or entry-level Workspace plans. Google has not provided a timeline for when it will be more widely available.
