Earlier today, it was reported that Apple’s foldable iPhone is experiencing production issues, which could delay the device’s launch by several months. However, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman stated that the iPhone Fold is "on track" for its expected September launch.

Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Appears Ready for September Launch

Mark Gurman wrote in Bloomberg:

According to people familiar with the matter, Apple Inc.’s first foldable phone is on track to launch during the company’s usual iPhone launch period this year. This counters concerns about major production issues.

The company plans to unveil the foldable model alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in September, said people who spoke on condition of anonymity. Apple’s phones typically hit stores the week after their announcement.

The report notes that Apple’s shares fell earlier today after Nikkei Asia indicated that the iPhone Fold is facing serious production issues. Clearly, sources within Apple seem motivated to share positive news through Gurman.

Recently, Gurman himself had stated that he expected the iPhone Fold’s release date to be slightly later than that of the iPhone 18 Pro. While this is still quite possible, it seems that Apple feels a genuine optimism about the targeted September launch. The report continues:

The complexity of the new screens and materials could limit initial supply for a few weeks, while Apple is currently moving with plans to launch the device alongside or shortly after the new non-foldable models, they said.

Gurman adds an important qualification: “Still, the release date is six months away, and production has yet to ramp up. This means the timing is uncertain.”
