We are entering a summer season filled with software announcements, but Apple has more than 15 new hardware products expected to be released later this year; among them are multiple iPads. Here’s what to expect about the new iPads.
#1: iPad mini with OLED display
The iPad mini may not be the most popular model, but it has a unique fan base. A new iPad mini is expected to be released later this year with at least one major change.
According to reports from various sources, including Bloomberg, the next iPad mini will gain an OLED display.
The current iPad mini's LCD display has been one of the biggest complaints about the product. This is partly due to a “jelly scrolling” issue that was somewhat resolved in the latest model, but it hasn’t completely disappeared.
Switching to OLED should eliminate ongoing doubts about the display, especially if it resembles the tandem OLED display of the iPad Pro.
An updated chip is also expected in the new iPad mini. The current mini has the A17 Pro chip, so it already supports Apple Intelligence. There are also rumors that the new model will receive the A19 chip and improved water resistance.
#2: Base model iPad with new chip
In addition to the new iPad mini, there is another iPad that Apple will release this year: an updated base model.
Rumors suggested that the latest base iPad would be released in March, but Apple only introduced a new iPad Air and did not make any other iPad updates.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman expects the next base iPad to be released this year. However, the timing remains uncertain.
When the new iPad is released, it is expected to gain the A18 chip; this will bring Apple Intelligence to the base iPad for the first time along with its most notable feature.
Current iPad users may not find much benefit from Apple Intelligence, but considering that iOS and iPadOS 27 will revolve around exciting AI updates, this situation may change.
Beyond the new chip, most of the other features of the new iPad are expected to remain the same.
If you are expecting a new iPad Pro, the current M5 model is not expected to be updated until 2027.
