Pedometer++, since it enabled step tracking with the iPhone 5s in 2013, has recorded many distances. After approximately 13 years of updates, version 8.0 comes with a completely revamped Apple Watch experience and includes a new Discovery Mode. Pedometer++ offers an "extremely useful workout selector" for Apple Watch users disappointed with the Workout app in watchOS 26.
Discovery Mode saves battery life for longer Apple Watch workout tracking
Apple redesigned the Workout app in watchOS 26, but not everyone is satisfied with the current workout selector.
Apple has solved the biggest usability issue, but Pedometer++ 8 offers a more familiar experience for long-time Apple Watch users.
By scrolling down from the step counter, users can access an updated workout selector to start a new walk, run, or hike. We redesigned this selector for maximum ease of use. We want our users to be able to quickly and easily choose a workout type; they should be able to make selections confidently by scrolling between our large and clear touch targets.
Additionally, version 8.0 introduces a new Discovery Mode for Pedometer++ Premium subscribers that optimizes battery life for longer activity tracking while tracking the same types of workouts.
This new mode saves battery life by disabling continuous heart rate monitoring, working instead with the basic heart rate tracking provided by the Apple Watch during extended walks, runs, and hikes. […] This mode allows you to participate in major events that can last all day with a map on your wrist.
Premium subscribers can expect up to 40% battery savings while tracking workouts in Discovery Mode.
Pedometer++ features a fun design update across the app
The new design of Pedometer++ 8 is not limited to the aforementioned "extremely useful workout selector." In fact, it starts with the Pedometer++ home screen on the Apple Watch, which is bolder and more colorful than ever.
Pedometer++ 8.0 focuses around a completely rebuilt and redesigned Apple Watch app. The bold new look centers on your key metrics for the day: steps climbed, distance traveled, and flights of stairs. The design uses our branded colors to reinforce how close you are to your daily step goal; you can see the semi-circle filling up as you progress.
The refreshed design also extends to the active workout view:
During a workout, Pedometer++ displays a special map with workout metrics such as heart rate and heart rate zones, speed, and elevation changes on the Apple Watch. All these screens are designed to be perfectly readable on the go. We worked to ensure all necessary information is available without complicating the interface.
If you are disappointed with Apple’s Workout app or looking for a fun way to track your daily step count, Pedometer++ is always worth having on your Apple Watch and iPhone.
