Google Photos is adding a new video playback speed control to its Android app. This feature allows users to adjust playback directly between 0.5x and 2x speeds within the app. The feature is currently being rolled out gradually to Android users, but no announcement has been made regarding the iOS version.
The speed control appears within the video player interface during playback. Google has not specified whether the control is available via a dedicated button or a menu toggle.
Google Photos Video Speed Options and Android Rollout
According to the Google Photos support page, the available speed options range from 0.5x for slow playback to 2x for fast viewing. Google has not confirmed whether intermediate speeds like 1.25x or 1.5x are supported or if the speed control works with all video formats stored in Google Photos.
This feature is currently only available on Android, and there is no definitive timeline from Google for an iOS version. As with most Google app updates, the rollout on Android is happening gradually, so some users may not see the option immediately, even if it has launched in their region.
Google Photos has not announced any changes to video editing tools with this update.
