The availability of the high-end models of Mac Studio and Mac mini continues to decline due to worsening supply constraints and the impending M5 refresh.
Many models are now shown as "currently unavailable" on the Apple Store, meaning that buyers cannot place orders for these products. This situation also includes the M4 Mac mini with 32 GB of RAM and at least two Mac Studio configurations...
Last week, we reported that the M3 Ultra Mac Studio with 256 GB of RAM was back-ordered until August or September; the Apple Online Store indicated delivery delays of 4-5 months.
Within a week, the supply has decreased so much that Apple is no longer accepting orders for this model. Additionally, the M4 Max Mac Studio with 128 GB of RAM is also completely unavailable for ordering. Similarly, the previously mentioned M4 Mac mini with 32 GB of RAM can no longer be ordered.
(Update: The M4 Pro and Mac mini with 64 GB of RAM are also now shown as 'currently unavailable.')
The "currently unavailable" status usually indicates that the product is about to be completely removed from the configurator. This exactly happened for the 512 GB Mac Studio option in March.
While other Mac mini and Mac Studio models can still be purchased, the delivery estimates are quite bleak. M3 Ultra Mac Studio models are providing shipping times of at least five weeks. Depending on the RAM and SSD storage configuration, Mac mini buyers will have to wait anywhere from one month to three months.
If you want to be optimistic, this situation can be seen as a strong indication that the M5 update for Mac mini and Mac Studio is close. However, it is hard to say whether this is truly the case or if the current situation stems from the RAM and storage shortages that the entire computer industry is currently struggling with.
We hope that Apple executives can provide some information about the extraordinary circumstances during the next quarterly earnings call on April 30.
