I have been searching for a slim MagSafe battery for years. I have tried dozens of these types of battery packs, and some were great, but they all had a common disadvantage; thickness. This year’s iPhone Air increased my desire for a slim MagSafe battery solution even more. When I saw that BMX launched the SolidSafe Air with a 5,000 mAh capacity and a thickness of less than 6.8 mm, I realized I had to try it. After spending more than a week with it, here’s what you need to know.

Don’t forget to watch the user experience video of the SolidSafe Air and others!

SolidSafe Air

This MagSafe power bank has many nice features on paper. Fast Qi2 15W charging speeds, the ability to charge multiple devices, and using solid-state batteries to fit 5000mAh into such a small and slim case. Here’s everything the battery can do:

  • 5,000mAh capacity
  • Qi2 15W wireless charging speeds
  • 20W USB-C output (Power Delivery)
  • Can charge two devices simultaneously
  • 6.88mm thin and 116g
  • Titanium construction
  • LED battery level indicators

Additionally, it charges via USB-C at 15W, allowing it to charge from 0% to 100% in less than 2 hours. I also liked the fit and finish. The front has a brushed titanium look, while the inside gives a soft rubber feel.

My Experience

The most attractive feature for me was the slimness of the power bank. I had never seen such a slim power bank. I use it with my iPhone 17 Pro, and it fits perfectly. I am an iPhone 17 Pro user, not a Pro Max user, so I noticed that some power banks tend to protrude over the 17 Pro because the battery is designed more for use with the Pro Max. I thought they had to make this SolidSafe Battery long and wide to make it slim, just like Apple did with the MagSafe power bank for the iPhone Air. Although it is slightly wider than other power banks, which is really very little, it still fits perfectly on my iPhone 17 Pro. As you can see from my visuals, the battery aligns perfectly with the 17 Pro on all edges.

Since it is so slim and light, the power bank does not add much weight or thickness to the phone. For comparison, an iPhone 17 Pro is 8.75mm thick and weighs 206g, while the SolidSafe Air is 6.8mm thick and 90g lighter. Another comparison is with Apple’s MagSafe battery for the iPhone Air; it is 7.7mm thick and weighs 127g. This way, you can understand how small and light the SolidSafe battery is. Personally, I carry it in my waist bag, and it adds very little weight to my daily carry load.

Charging

Regarding charging, I primarily used it with my iPhone 17 Pro. I really wanted to test how much energy it would provide. I placed the battery on my iPhone 17 Pro when it had a charge between 20% and 30%, and it reached a charge between 90% and 95% while I was still intermittently using my phone. It added very little thickness, and the brushed titanium surface feels nice to hold and provides a slightly passive grip. I also wirelessly charged my AirPods Pro a few times, and it worked as expected. The battery warmed up slightly, but it was not concerning. The battery itself also charged very quickly. So, it’s nice to know that I can get a quick charge when I’m in a hurry.

I just wish there was one thing; an LCD screen that would show me some battery percentages or charging diagnostics. However, I understand that this would add thickness or reduce battery capacity, so I accept this situation. But overall, this battery is great. Additionally, the standard SolidSafe 5k and 10k are also available, which offer a screen.

Pricing, Availability, and Thoughts

The BMX SolidSafe Air is available today on BMX's website. It comes in three colors: Silver, Gold, and Black (I got the silver one), and it is priced at $59.

If you are looking for a new MagSafe power bank and slimness and portability are important to you, this is the best option available. I have not seen a battery bank this slim and so compatible with Apple aesthetics. Although BMX markets it as part of the iPhone Air, this battery is also perfect for any iPhone with MagSafe and is great for those who want to reduce thickness.

What do you think? Do you like the idea of slim MagSafe batteries? Or do you prefer batteries to be larger for more capacity? Let’s discuss below.
