Today's update adds four metrics to help athletes understand intensity, pace, and efficiency during power-based training sessions. Here are the details.

More Insights for High-Performance Athletes

Earlier this year, The Outsiders introduced Personal Training Goals, allowing users to set training goals based on time, distance, training load, active energy, or elevation.

Shortly after, Gentler Stories expanded this feature based on user feedback, starting to support goals related to a specific number of sessions or time spent in Training Focus, Heart Rate, and Cycling Power zones.

The personal training goals added at the beginning of the year provide athletes with trackable clear targets such as cycling miles, running duration, and energy burned in the gym. A subsequent update also brought customization options to the Today and Progress tabs, allowing you to personalize the user experience as you wish.

Today, The Outsiders received an update that offers high-performance athletes deeper insights into the most important metrics.

The 1.6 version currently released on the App Store introduces "four new metrics that work together to provide a complete picture of a session" – showing not only how hard you worked but also how well you executed it:

  • Relative Intensity – shows how challenging the session was relative to your personal limits (for cycling only).
  • Variability Index – indicates how you paced your effort and whether you synchronized with your goal.
  • Efficiency Factor – shows power output relative to heart rate. An upward trend indicates that your aerobic engine is strengthening.
  • Aerobic Decoupling – indicates how well you maintained this efficiency throughout the session.

Gentler Stories adds, "these metrics are available for rides and runs with power data, and you can find them in the session summary," stating that "advanced metrics are part of Outsiders Absolute," which offers subscription plans with monthly, yearly, and lifetime options.
