According to a new report from Counterpoint Research, Apple is expected to play a significant role in driving the growth of OLED laptop screens in 2026. This will occur despite the broader OLED market being under pressure from rising memory costs and weak smartphone demand. Here are the details.

Rising Memory Prices Impacting Smartphone OLED Demand More Than Expected

The report notes that Counterpoint Research has revised its growth projections for foldable, flexible, and rigid smartphone OLED panels for 2026. It highlights that demand has weakened due to the pressure of rising memory prices on device costs:

“In 2026, among smartphones, a 34% annual growth for foldable OLED panels is expected, which represents a drop from the previous 46% forecast. This growth will be supported by Apple’s foldable OLED smartphone and new models from Samsung and other OEMs. While the annual growth of flexible OLED smartphone panels is expected to remain flat at 2%, rigid OLED smartphone panels are anticipated to decline by 15% annually.”

For OLED laptops, Counterpoint forecasts that Apple’s transition to OLED screens in MacBook Pro models will support a 33% annual growth in the segment. This will occur alongside the continuous expansion of premium AI PCs, where high average selling prices (ASP) help balance rising memory costs.

When considering the broader OLED market, including tablets, monitors, automotive displays, and other segments, the report anticipates flat annual shipment growth in 2026. Expected gains in OLED monitors (45% increase), tablets (13% increase), and automotive displays will offset the weakness in smartphones.
