Apple has been developing a smart home screen for years, but the product's launch primarily depends on the completion of the promised Siri update. A new report confirms that Apple is targeting the launch of its smart home screen around iOS 27.
Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reported today that the earliest launch opportunity for Apple's smart home screen product is in September:
Apple had planned to launch the screen this month, hoping the new Siri would be ready, but unidentified sources indicated that negotiations are private. […]
The smart screen itself has been completed for several months. However, the company plans to launch it around September, as it is waiting for the new Siri to finally be completed.
Today's report follows last week's hint from Kosutami that a fall launch is expected.
More recently, the account shared that one of the ongoing prototypes might have a "MagSafe-like wall attachment feature" according to a specific revision.
Returning to Gurman's latest report, he also mentioned the wall mounting feature:
The screen looks like a square iPad that can be mounted on a wall or has a half-dome-shaped speaker base, designed as a central AI hub for the home. The user interface includes a list of circular app icons arranged in a layout similar to the main screen of the Apple Watch.
A standout feature is a facial recognition-based system that can recognize users as they approach the device. With this information, the product can display personalized data such as the user's calendar appointments, reminders, notes, music, and news preferences.
Based on this recognition, it appears to be more versatile than Amazon's products in the same category.
Earlier this year, Apple signed an agreement with Google to use the company's Gemini AI models as the brains behind the improved Siri and Apple Intelligence features.
Although we have yet to see these updates emerge, we expect the new Siri and Apple Intelligence features to start arriving with iOS 26.5, likely next month. Apple will also introduce iOS 27 shortly after the annual WWDC keynote event held in June.
