Since introducing the current iMac design in 2021, Apple has updated its chip twice and refreshed its colors only once. Apparently, this is set to change this year.

Mark Gurman reports in his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg that Apple plans to use new colors in its next iMac update.

Apple is currently selling the M4 iMac, introduced in October 2024, in seven color options: blue, purple, pink, orange, yellow, green, and silver.

These specific colors were part of the M4 iMac refresh and offered a different version of the same seven colors selected for the M1 iMac. Apple did not change the colors in the M3 iMac version and skipped the M2 chip for the iMac.

Looking ahead, Gurman states that Apple plans to have an iMac refresh in “new colors this year.”

[…] It has been said that the upcoming iMac update will include a refreshed color palette.

We will see whether this means completely new colors that have not been presented before or if Apple plans to readjust the tones of the iMac colors it has chosen. In terms of processors, Apple is currently offering the M5 chip in several machines, including the new M5 MacBook Air, so the iMac could also be upgraded to that. Alternatively, Apple may hold off on the iMac refresh until the M6 chip is ready.

In the same article, Gurman notes that “Apple continues to experiment with iMacs featuring more powerful processors and larger screens,” but this is not in the context of a new product planned for this year.
