The contactless payment service with iPhone was launched today in Malaysia as Apple continues to promote this service aimed at small businesses. Interestingly, the iPhone manufacturer is lagging a bit behind in the adoption of its own payment terminal solution...

The contactless payment with iPhone offers an attractive option for small businesses as it allows them to accept contactless payments simply by using an iPhone. Typically, companies had to purchase or rent a payment terminal or card reader, so Apple’s service not only reduces costs but also provides convenience.

One small disadvantage is that contactless payment security procedures occasionally require cardholders to insert their cards into a reader and enter a PIN. However, this is not possible with contactless payment with iPhone and occurs very rarely.

This feature is now active in over 50 countries, having started in Mexico before Malaysia. Apple states that it is supported by five payment platforms in Malaysia today, but is not yet available in the company’s own retail store.

As of today, ADAPTIS, Fiuu, HitPay, Stripe, and Zoho are the first payment platforms offering the contactless payment service with iPhone to merchants in Malaysia, enabling businesses in key sectors such as retail, food and beverage, beauty, and professional services to provide this capability at the point of sale. The contactless payment with iPhone will also soon be available at Apple The Exchange TRX.

American Express, JCB, Mastercard, MyDebit, UnionPay, and Visa cards are accepted in the country.
