Apple has restructured its hardware team with the appointment of John Ternus as CEO. With this change, Johny Srouji has been promoted to a broader new hardware chief role. Along with this step, the company has merged its hardware engineering and hardware technologies departments into a single organization, which will be overseen by Srouji.
In an email sent to employees on Monday, Srouji explained how he plans to create an organization within this new structure.
According to Bloomberg, Srouji will divide the unified hardware engineering and hardware technologies group into five areas:
- Hardware Engineering: To be overseen by Tom Marieb, who joined Apple from Intel in 2019.
- Silicon: To be overseen by Sri Santhanam, who has 18 years of experience at Apple.
- Advanced Technologies: To be overseen by Zongjian Chen, who has 17 years of experience at Apple.
- Platform Architecture: To be overseen by Tim Millet, who has 21 years of experience at Apple.
- Project Management: To be overseen by Donny Nordhues, who has 20 years of experience at Apple.
In his letter, Srouji wrote:
“As part of this transition, I was asked to step into the Hardware Chief role and to merge the hardware technologies and hardware engineering teams under a single organization. I am excited about bringing these teams together, integrating them further, and helping us innovate on a larger scale than we already do. As you know, we have a very exciting roadmap ahead of us, and I don’t believe there is a limit to what we can achieve together.
Srouji also told his team that Cook made “the best choice” regarding who Ternus’s successor would be. “Those of us who have worked closely with John know how thoughtful and talented he is,” Srouji added.
