The iPhone 18 Pro is coming this fall, and according to rumors, one of its features, the updated Camera Control button, may prove an old saying: less is more.
The iPhone 18's Camera Control May Drop Touch Features, Offering a Simpler Button
When the iPhone 16 introduced Camera Control, the feature received mixed reviews initially. Some users thought certain aspects of the button were impractical and unnecessary.
For example, you can use the Camera Control's touch slider to adjust zoom, exposure, Photographic Style, and more. It does a lot - perhaps too much.
Personally, I quickly realized that these extra features annoyed me, as I was triggering them unintentionally. So, I disabled all of them.
These manual adjustments, combined with some Apple software updates, turned me into a real fan of Camera Control.
However, nearly two years later, I still don’t use the button's touch features. And according to rumors, Apple plans to remove these features entirely from the iPhone 18 Pro.
Last August, we heard that the iPhone 18 series would have a simplified Camera Control button - retaining pressure sensitivity while dropping the touch features.
Basically, it seems Apple is doing exactly what I was already doing manually: removing complex extra features while preserving the key elements that make Camera Control great.
I love using Camera Control to launch the camera app. Additionally, it has been great for visual intelligence, which I have found more beneficial over time.
I hope that by refreshing the Camera Control on the iPhone 18, Apple adds one or two small improvements.
For instance, adding a double-tap option to Camera Control would be useful for quickly switching to a specific camera mode. I would find this handy for quickly opening the selfie camera.
In any case, the Camera Control on the iPhone 18 Pro should provide a solid feature for users at the outset, improving the overall experience while eliminating the need to change many specific settings.
