Apple has added the M5 MacBook Pro at a discounted price to its refurbished store. However, the fundamental storage change made since last month means that the value may not be as competitive as usual when compared to the new discounted hardware.
Apple's 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro refurbished model comes with 512GB SSD
When Apple introduced the M5 MacBook Pro in October, the 14-inch laptop was initially offered for sale at $1599 with 512GB of storage.
Last month, Apple reviewed the hardware and increased the base price. The base storage was raised to 1TB, and the starting price rose to $1699.
While the starting price of the M5 MacBook Pro has increased, the cost of the 1TB model has become cheaper than previous prices when configured as an upgrade.
Apple’s refurbished M5 MacBook Pro model offers 512GB of storage at a discount from the original sale price of $1599. The refurbished machine is being sold for $1359, with a $240 discount.
The same machine's 1TB version is currently being sold as new on Amazon for $1549.
This is still more than the refurbished price, but it offers significant savings on Apple’s new price for double the storage capacity, especially compared to the refurbished model.
A16 iPad refurbished prices
Apple has also added the A16 iPad to its refurbished store, making a $50 discount on the base model; this matches the price of the new model on Amazon.
However, Apple’s refurbished iPad models also come with storage and cellular upgrade options.
