Apple has confirmed that despite Tim Cook stepping down as CEO in September, he will remain active in a significant area of the company. Here are the details.
Cook Will Maintain His Relationship with Policymakers
Since discussions about Tim Cook's retirement began, a significant aspect of his tenure as CEO has become the center of debates: his relationship with the U.S. government and how this responsibility will be passed on to Apple's next CEO.
Today, Apple responded to part of this question by announcing that Cook will be involved in the company's global policy engagement in his new role as executive chairman:
As executive chairman, Cook will assist in certain aspects of the company, including interactions with policymakers around the world.
As expected, this news reinforces Cook's significant influence in government relations, especially in dealings with the U.S. and China.
In the U.S., Cook has come under intense scrutiny over the past year due to his ties to the Trump administration.
This included his famous visit to the White House to present Trump with a glass plaque set on a 24-karat gold base and attending the screening of the 'Melania' documentary just hours after ICE agents shot and killed Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.
Responding to questions about these issues on Good Morning America, Tim Cook stated, “I am not a political person on either side.”
