The Studio Display XDR has experienced a rare price drop from Apple when purchased without the stand option. The Studio Display XDR was launched last month with a starting price of $3299, either with the VESA mount option or Apple’s tiltable stand.

The company updated the price of the VESA mount option, reducing it by $400, so the entry price of the display is now $2899. The Studio Display XDR with the stand still starts at $3299.

Clearly, Apple’s production cost for the VESA mount option must be significantly less than that of the model with the included stand, so it was strange that this was not reflected in the price difference earlier.

Apple also made the new default price tiers for the Studio Display XDR more prominent by updating the purchase flow on Apple.com.

Previously, the first step of the purchase flow offered users the choice of standard or nano-textured glass options.

With this price update, the glass option has been moved to the second step. Now, the first step is to choose between the $3299 stand option or the $2899 VESA mount adapter option. This ensures that the lowest entry price configuration is immediately displayed.

If you are in the market for Apple’s highest quality monitor but have a compatible VESA stand you want to use on your desk, you can now save $400.

Unfortunately, the cheaper non-XDR Studio Display did not benefit from the same privilege. Whether you choose the Studio Display stand or the VESA mount option, both are still offered at the same price of $1599. The basic Studio Display only comes with a tiltable stand as standard. The height-adjustable version remains a $400 upgrade.
