Apple Wallet has gained many new features with iOS 26, but another significant development is the expansion of car key support to more car brands. Here are the recent and upcoming major car key launches.

Apple Wallet is supported by Toyota and Rivian, more major brands are on the way

Apple has long envisioned the Wallet app replacing the physical wallet. However, progress has been slow due to the need for support from third-party partners in some cases.

Car keys are a great example of this. The spread of supported vehicles took years.

Last June, Apple announced that 13 car brands promised to support car keys in Wallet.

It took longer than expected, but recently the two biggest players on the list launched their car keys.

  • Toyota
  • Rivian

Toyota began supporting Apple Wallet car keys with the 2026 RAV4 in February.

Rivian launched its own car key support for the second-generation R1S and R1T at the end of December.

Now, it seems several major car manufacturers are in line:

  • Porsche
  • General Motors, including Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC

Porsche announced that car key support will begin with the 2026 electric Macan and Cayenne models.

While the Macan is now available for order for spring delivery, the new Cayenne will hit the market in a few months.

Last fall, Apple added General Motors to the car key background and noted that several vehicles would soon add support. Then in December, the automaker confirmed that car keys were on the way.

GM manages many car brands, including three that Apple said would support car keys: Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC.

As there are more brands on Apple's list of upcoming partners, we hope for more launches before the 1st anniversary of Apple's announcement at WWDC this June.
