Google is offering a major update for NotebookLM and introducing a new AI-powered feature called Cinematic Video Summary. This feature aims to transform research notes and documents into engaging video descriptions.

In addition to the video update, Google is also working on several productivity enhancements to help users manage their large notebook collections more easily.

Cinematic Video Summary Converts Notes into AI Videos

The biggest addition in NotebookLM is the Cinematic Video Summary, which builds upon the existing Video Summary feature but adds much more advanced visuals and storytelling.

The system uses several Google AI models, such as Gemini, Nano Banana Pro, and Veo, to create fluid animations and detailed visuals designed to explain complex topics more clearly.

Gemini acts as a creative director, automatically deciding how to structure the story, which visual style will fit best, and how the information should be presented. The system can even enhance its own output to maintain a consistent look and feel throughout the video.

The Cinematic Video Summary is currently available in English and is offered on a limited basis for Google AI Ultra subscribers aged 18 and over, both on web and mobile.

New Search and Pinning Tools in NotebookLM

In addition to the AI video feature, it appears that Google is working on new tools aimed at improving NotebookLM’s organization.

When users have a lot of pages, navigating between them can be challenging. A new search button should solve this problem and has been seen on the NotebookLM home screen; this will allow users to quickly find specific notebooks by typing part of the title instead of scrolling through long lists.

Another upcoming feature will allow users to pin important notebooks to the top of the interface, providing them easier access - similar to pinned chats in messaging applications.

These changes are designed to save time for users working with dozens or even hundreds of notebooks.

Availability of NotebookLM’s New Video and Search Features

NotebookLM has quickly gained popularity as an AI-powered research assistant that helps users summarize information, organize resources, and extract insights from documents. This is due to its unique feature of (generating output only from uploaded files).

The search and pinning features are still in development, and it is not yet clear when they will be made available to all users. However, the Cinematic Video Summary update has already begun to be rolled out to active Google AI Ultra subscribers.
