Welcome to the Independent App Spotlight. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we showcase the latest apps in the indie app world. If you're a developer and want your app to be featured, get in touch with us.

Everyone probably has a massive photo library that goes back years, perhaps spanning over a decade. Over time, this consumes more storage space, which becomes an issue, especially if you are paying for iCloud storage. On the other hand, editing is not easy.

This Day makes photo editing a habit and designs an interface that allows you to tackle it one day at a time.

Highlights

Instead of showing you tens of thousands of photos at once, This Day adopts a more focused approach by only displaying photos from today’s date as you took them in past years. Thus, instead of adopting a holistic approach to organizing your photo library, you only need to think about today’s date for past years. Over time, if you continue to check the app, you will make progress.

Of course, this is not a one-time solution – but I love this approach because it removes the mental burden and makes it just a few minutes of process each day.

This Day will easily show you all the photos you took on this day in past years, and it also has features like Live Photo compression (that is, converting your live photos into a single frame for a smaller file size) and duplicate detection – offering multiple ways to help you preserve your valuable storage space.

You can also set daily reminders and maintain a streak to keep yourself motivated. Overall, I think it provides an intuitive way to manage old photos without feeling overwhelmingly burdensome.
